WHAT IS DERMAPEN?

Dermapen is the most advanced form of facial skin needling with patent-pending AOVN (Advanced Oscillating Vertical Needle) technology.  Dermapen glides over the skin creating millions of fine rejuvenating channels.  The adjustable needle depth allows for a treatment that is fully tailored to your individual needs.

Pen needling is used to stimulate collagen production and renewal ittreats and successfully reduces the appearance of facial aging, fine lines and wrinkles, scar tissue, stretch marks and pigmentation

HOW IT WORKS?

Dermapen systematically creates micropunctures in the skin and the body naturally responds by launching processes to repair the physical damage.  The skins processes are progressively strengthened and normalised promoting intensive regeneration.

Dermapen is so advanced, it is even suitable and safe to use in delicate contours and hard to reach areas such as around the eyes, eyelids, earlobes, neck, lips and on the nose.  Pen treatments are comfortable with procedural time complete in around 20 minutes.  Post treatment, the skin will have some facial redness lasting 12-48hrs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES DERMAPEN TREATMENT HURT?

Everyone has different experiences, however treatment with Dermapen is rapid and discomfort is minimal.  For more intensive needling procedures, a topical anaesthetic cream may be applied 15-40 minutes before the procedure.  This will render the treatments virtually pain free.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Generally no, Pen technology allows for effortless facial needling with minimal side effects and down time. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment.

Some may feel a sensation similar to having a mild sunburn. Your skin may feel warm, tight and mildly uncomfortable.  The appearance of petechiae or small blood blisters are common around areas of thinner skin quality especially around the crow’s feet and under the eyes.  These are perfectly normal and usually disappear within 2-4 days.  You should stay out of the sun and stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

The application of a tinted moisturiser  and sunscreen will increase comfort and reduce inflammation.  Many people find that their first treatment is the least comfortable, and subsequent treatments are much easier to tolerate and recover from.

WHEN WILL I START TO SEE IMPROVEMENT / HOW MANY TREATMENTS?

Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments, 4 weeks apart
Acne scarring: 6 treatments, 6 weeks apart
Stretch marks: 4-8 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart

Typically you will see results after the first treatment.  Lasting and more significant results will become visible after 4-6 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart).  The condition of your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments, especially when combined with the recommended post-treatment care.

  • Pre Treatment

As pen needling utilises non-thermolytic (without heat) technology and does not destroy the skin’s integrity, it may be performed on almost every skin type, condition and colour. Whilst it is not mandatory to prepare the skin with any specific products, those complexions which are affected by pigmentation or excessive sun-damage are recommended to use topical pigment-blockers such as vitamin C in conjunction with a sunscreen daily. Dermapen treatments cannot be performed on skin that has recently been sunburnt, damaged or experiencing aggressive cystic acne.

  • Post Treatment

It is imperative that all skins are protected with daily application of a sunscreen after any needling treatment. For the relief of redness, inflammation or swelling, a cooling gel will provide rapid calm and comfort. Any tightness or flaking may be relieved with the application of a light, non-comedogenic moisturiser applied twice daily. During recovery, the use of scrubs or active ingredients such as vitamin A or AHAs should be stopped for a minimum of 5 days. Any redness or petechiae (blood blisters) may be easily concealed with a mineral make-up during recovery. It is recommended to avoid high-cardio workouts and any activities that may cause heat or sweat for a minimum of 48 hours post-Dermapen treatment. Normal activities including work may be resumed immediately with no downtime required.

CAN I COMBINE DERMAPEN TREATMENT WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

Treatment with Dermapen may improve the results and duration of other treatments including anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. It is therefore common to include Dermapen as part of an individualised treatment plan which includes anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. It is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks prior to treatment with Dermapen.  If you have any questions regarding an individual treatment plan, feel free to discuss them with a Flemington Medical & Aesthetic consultant.
