Platelet Rich Plasma (or PRP) is a revolutionary rejuvenation therapy treatment, designed to rejuvenate and regenerate skin conditions related to ageing and scarring.
PRP is an aesthetic therapy that uses the healing potential of the patient’s own blood to stimulate skin cells and to initiate the tissue regeneration process and reconstruction of the skin.

PRP stimulates the patient’s own cells to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin, resulting in: improved elasticity, tone, thickness as well as colour of the skin. Collagen fibres are able to remodel themselves meaning wrinkles and folds become smoother and less visible and the natural healing process of your skin is faster.Blood is taken from your own veins in special tubes. The blood is then placed into a centrifuge in order to separate mesenchymal cells for the procedure, like platelets and stem cells, which are injected as your own plasma into the skin of your face, neck, chest etc.

The special cells contain fundamental growth factors released by activated platelets to initiate the tissue regeneration process by stimulation of new collagen production, induction of mesenchymal stem cell division and differentiation, and stimulation of angiogenesis
(the formation of new blood vessels).

The treatment is designed for patients with tired and dry skin, lack of skin tension, uneven pigmentation, signs of skin aging, an increased risk of allergic reactions and those who prefer to undergo a more natural treatment.

Platelets are cells in the blood that respond when a blood vessel is damaged.  In addition platelets play an important role in healing by releasing growth factors and stimulating a cascade of processes that lead to tissue repair.

The growth factors that are released after a PRP injection are responsible for:

  • Stimulating collagen formation
  • Forming new blood vessels
  • Reorganising cells and skin tissue

These effects result in an improved skin tone, colour and texture, as well as smoothed lines and a softened appearance of wrinkles. In addition to these benefits, the injected area will also experience an increase in hydration, helping to keep skin soft, healthy and vibrant.

These benefits are a direct result of growth factors, which control the body’s wound healing mechanism. When growth factors are stimulated by a PRP treatment, collagen production is boosted, helping to improve the appearance of ageing related skin damage, including wrinkles, scarring and fine lines.

Step1- Numbing Cream Application

Platelet Rich Plasma is a very safe, quick and comfortable treatment. Prior to the procedure, a numbing cream is applied to the skin in order to minimise any discomfort from the PRP injection.

Step 2- Blood Collection

Next, a small amount of blood is drawn from the arm.

Step 3 -Separation of Platelet Component

This blood is immediately placed in the centrifuge and when centrifugation is complete your plasma will be separated from your red blood cells. The rich platelets are extracted ready for injection into the skin. Platelets gradually increase the amount of collagen produced which can increase skin thickness and overall health of the skin.

Step 4- Injection of Platelet Component

The skin is cleansed and the PRP is injected into the skin under topical local anaesthesia. The forehead, peri-orbital region, cheeks, chin, décolletage and dorsum of the hands are prone to aging and wrinkles and can be rejuvenated with PRP. This immediately activates growth factors and stem cells, triggering rejuvenation that will result in renewed, youthful and vibrant skin. While three PRP injection treatments are generally recommended to obtain optimal results, visible improvements can be seen after just one treatment.

This entire process and injection time is simple and takes approximately 1 hour in total.

Platelet Rich Plasma achieves natural results including restoring natural volume, improving dull and tired skin, and skin tightening.

  • Total Face Rejuvenation
  • Jaw Line Definition
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Neck Tightening
  • Uneven or dull skin tone
  • Dehydrated and dry skin
  • Peri Oral Lines (Lines around the mouth)
  • Peri Orbital Lines (Lines around the eyes
  • Lip Regeneration
  • Fine, thin crepe skin on the neck and back of hands
  • Ageing Knees
  • Mild scarring
  • Scar improvement
  • Active acne
  • Acne scarring
  • Improving skin elasticity
  • Stretch marks
  • Surgical/trauma scars
  • Hair loss

Treatment with platelet rich plasma uses your own blood. Because of this, the risk of allergy or cellular rejection is eliminated, making PRP one of the safest and most tolerable procedures currently available.

While PRP can be performed safely and effectively on the majority of patients, there may be some for whom it is not best-suited. Your suitability for the procedure  can be assessed in a free initial consultation to determine if PRP injections are the best treatment for your specific skin concerns.

Pre Treatment Instructions:

  • It’s best to be well-hydrated 48 hours leading up to the procedure, so drink plenty of fluids. Water is strongly recommended.
  • Reduce your fat intake for one to two weeks prior to the treatment.
  • Reduce your alcohol and caffeine intake.
  • Stop all omegas, green teas and other supplements that increase bruising for 2-3 weeks prior to platelet rich plasma treatment.
  • As the treatment involves causing some degree of trauma to the skin, avoid other facial treatments that sensitise the skin one week prior to treatment.

Post Treatment Instructions:

  • Do not touch your face for at least 4 hours to allow the injection sites to heal.
  • Wash your hands before touching injected areas to avoid introducing external infection.
  • Do not wear make up for 24 hours after a PRP injection treatment.
  • Do not ice the area or have hot showers (platelets do not like extremes of temperatures).
  • Sleep with the treated area elevated. Propping up multiple pillows works well for this.
  • You must wear sunscreen for at least one month post treatment.
  • Keep the area free of oil based products, heavy cosmetics and thick moisturisers for at least two days post treatment.
  • The treated area will feel tender most commonly for up to one week post treatment, however this can last up to two
  • Bruising may be reduced by the use of Arnica tablets and Bromelin extract, along with massaging Hirudoid cream into the area.
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight, as well as rigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and excessive amounts of alcohol, as these will exacerbate swelling and increase the possibility of bruising.
  • Use gentle pH neutral skincare such as ASAP Gentle Cleanser for the following 72 hours.
  • Do not undergo any other facial treatments for at least two weeks following your PRP treatment.
  • The body takes time to respond to the influx of growth factors from your treatment, as regeneration of skin cells happens very gradually over time. The benefits of PRP treatment can be greatly enhanced by adopting a good skincare regimen and responsible sun protection habits, such as using an SPF 30 moisturiser daily to protect skin from the harsh Melbourne sun – especially after receiving PRP injections for wrinkles.
